U.S. News and Best Lawyers in America has published its inaugural list of top law firm’s nationwide and Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, has been included.

U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers, the leading survey of lawyers worldwide, surveyed 52,480 law firm clients and 43,900 leading lawyers and law firm managers. Concurrently, thousands of partners, associates, marketing officers and recruiting officers were asked to rate the law firms they considered best in their practice area. Based on that feedback, nearly 9,000 firms were ranked as "Best Law Firms" in 81 practice areas in 171 metropolitan areas and seven states.

Based on a tiered rather than a ranked system, Plunkett Cooney was recognized in the following 10 practice areas:

• Criminal Defense: White-Collar
• Legal Malpractice Law - Defendants
• Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants
• Workers' Compensation Law - Employers
• Municipal Law
• Insurance Law
• Labor Law - Management

To be eligible for a metropolitan ranking, a firm had to have at least one lawyer listed in Best Lawyers. As a result, 10,659 firms were included in the ranking process; 8,903 firms, including a large number of one person firms, received rankings.
