09.18.2018

Michigan Lawyers Weekly, a news publication serving the state’s legal industry, has named Plunkett Cooney attorney Elaine M. Pohl as one of its 2018 “Women in the Law.”

“We are ecstatic about Elaine’s selection by Michigan Lawyers Weekly,” said Thomas P. Vincent, Plunkett Cooney’s President and CEO. “She is a star in insurance coverage and related litigation. She’s also actively involved with the firm, serving on four committees and as an Insurance Coverage Practice Group Co-leader.”

Pohl will be among 30 women honored at the luncheon on Sept. 20 at the Detroit Marriott in Troy where one member of the class of 2018 will be selected as the “Woman of the Year.” The 2018 Women in the Law honorees will also be recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in a special section of the publication distributed on Sept. 24.

The Michigan Lawyers Weekly editorial staff selected this year’s honorees, after considering a number of criteria, including each nominee’s commitment to excellence in the practice of law;

inspiration and accomplishments as leaders in the profession; mentorship of other women; and significant contribution of time and effort to volunteerism and/or pro bono service.

Pohl is a partner in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office where she maintains a national practice counseling insurers in complex property and casualty disputes, including litigated and non-litigated matters. Pohl's insurance coverage experience extends to claims involving professional liability, construction defects, bodily injuries, environmental contamination, and personal and advertising injury issues. She also has niche expertise in the area of liquor licensing.

Selected as a Rising Star in insurance coverage by Michigan Super Lawyer magazine, Pohl is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, and she has served in leadership positions in the Insurance and Indemnity Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan (Immediate Past Chair, Chair, Chair Elect, Secretary and Treasurer) and the DRI - The Voice of the Defense Bar (Insurance Law Committee’s Compendia chair and former editor of covered events).

Pohl received her law degree, cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law in 1999. She received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Villanova University in 1996.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney is one of the nation’s oldest and largest law firms with approximately 300 employees, including 140 attorneys in eight Michigan cities, as well as in Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell. Fortune magazine has also named Plunkett Cooney among the top commercial law firms in the United States.
