PDFBrown elected to American College of Coverage Counsel
Stephen P. Brown, a partner of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was recently inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel (ACCC).
Established in 2012, the ACCC is composed of nearly 400 insurance coverage and extracontractual counsel in the United States and Canada. Membership is by invitation only and is reserved exclusively for attorneys who have engaged substantially in the practice of insurance law for at least 15 consecutive years and who have met the ACCC Board of Regents’ requirements.
The ACCC is focused on the creative, ethical and efficient adjudication of insurance coverage and extra-contractual disputes, peer-provided scholarship, professional coordination and the improvement of the relationship between and among diverse members.
A Co-leader of Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance Law Practice Group, Brown’s practice focuses exclusively on the representation of insurance companies in complex coverage disputes involving a range of issues, including insurance coverage for underlying product liability and environmental contamination claims, among others. He has also represented corporate entities in complex product liability litigation.
In addition, Brown, who is a member in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, has extensive experience handling bad faith and failure to settle claims on behalf of insurance companies. His insurance coverage practice also includes a number of defense cost disputes where the reasonableness and necessity of such costs incurred by an insurance policyholder were at issue.
Brown has successfully defended a number of key insurance coverage issues and has authored numerous coverage opinions for insurance carrier clients on a range of topics such as coverage for advertising injury claims, sexual harassment, racial and sexual discrimination, assault and battery, defective products, and claims made/claims reported issues.
Admitted to practice law in several federal courts and pro hac vice in nine states, Brown received his law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1993 and his undergraduate degree from University of Michigan in 1990.
Plunkett Cooney was established in 1913 and is a leading provider of business and litigation services to public and private sector clients across a range of industries. The firm employs approximately 140 attorneys in seven Michigan cities, as well as in Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.
Plunkett Cooney has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms, and it was recently named a 2023 “Best Law Firm” nationally in 12 practice areas as determined by U.S. News – Best Lawyers®.
