PDFKopson reappointed vice chair of national healthcare law organization
Mark S. Kopson, a partner in the Bloomfield Hills office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, has been reappointed to second one-year term as Vice Chair of the Payors, Plans and Managed Care Practice Group of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA).
The American Health Lawyers Association is the nation's largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field with more than 10,000 members. The Payors, Plans, and Managed Care Practice Group addresses legal issues concerning health plans and insurers, including, but not limited to, plan operations and management, managed care, litigation, regulations, privacy and security. As vice chair, Kopson’s responsibilities include promoting, maintaining and developing membership for the practice group and enhancing the value received by members.
Kopson, who serves as Plunkett Cooney’s Healthcare Industry Group Leader, represents numerous healthcare facilities, professional practices, physician-hospital organizations, integrated delivery systems and managed care entities in Michigan and throughout the United States. He has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of managed care negotiation, contracting, dispute resolution and regulation, as well as HIPAA, Stark and Anti-kickback compliance and agency investigation response. His practice also includes the formation and counseling of joint ventures and the sale and purchase of commercial entities and real estate.
Kopson is a member of the Health Care Law (Substantive Law Committee) and Business Law sections of the State Bar of Michigan; as well as the Business Law, Health Law, and Law Practice Management sections of the American Bar Association.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law in 1985, Kopson has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating-AV. AV is a registered certification mark of Reed Elsevier Properties, Inc., used in accordance with Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. He received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit in 1981.
