PDFPlunkett Cooney law firm names three new shareholders
Associate attorneys Jeffrey S. Hengeveld, Carrie Kennedy and David L. Van Slyke were recently named partners of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest litigation and transactional law firms.
“Carrie, David and Jeff are all outstanding attorneys who understand the importance of client service,” said Michael S. Bogren, Chairman of Plunkett Cooney’s Board of Directors. “They each come from different practice areas of the firm, which is an indicator of the depth of talent Plunkett Cooney is developing for generations to come.”
Hengeveld, who works in Plunkett Cooney’s Bloomfield Hills office, is a member of the firm’s Professional Liability Practice Group. His practice includes the representation of attorneys, accountants, insurance agents and real estate professionals who become the target of professional liability litigation. In addition, Hengeveld consults professionals on ethics issues and provides advice on licensure actions pending before the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission and other regulatory agencies.
Hengeveld received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University (MSU) and went on to receive his law degree from the MSU College of Law. He is the recipient of numerous academic and service related honors, including mention by Michigan Super Lawyers magazine as a Rising Star in the area of professional liability defense.
A member of Plunkett Cooney’s Transportation Law Practice Group, Carrie Kennedy focuses her practice in the areas of motor vehicle liability and no fault law. She regularly defends litigation involving motor vehicle liability claims resulting in deaths, catastrophic injuries and related property damage. In addition, she provides insurance coverage opinions to insurance providers involved in such disputes.
Kennedy, who works in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, is a member of several professional organizations, including the Michigan Brain Injury Association. She also provides related training to her clients and speaks at various conferences and seminars on auto liability and no fault law.
Kennedy is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and she received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.
David Van Slyke is a member of the firm’s Columbus, Ohio office who focuses his practice in the areas of general litigation, title insurance and banking law. He has particular expertise in commercial litigation matters, including commercial loan workouts, receiverships and related financial issues. His title practice extends throughout much of Ohio and includes representation of some of the country’s largest title insurers.
Van Slyke is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in Ohio, as well as in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is a graduate of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and received his undergraduate degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. A sought after speaker on title insurance issues, Van Slyke is active in several professional associations, including the Columbus, Ohio State and American bar associations.
