Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, recently named attorneys Joseph M. Ammar and Jeanna M. Weaver as its newest partners.

An attorney in the firm’s Kalamazoo, Michigan office and Banking, Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Practice Group, Ammar focuses his practice in the areas of creditors’ rights, bankruptcy and commercial law, representing secured lenders and financial institutions.

Ammar advises secured creditors in out-of-court workouts, which include loan restructurings and assignments. He handles foreclosures and litigates commercial collection actions. Ammar’s experience also includes representing secured creditors in bankruptcy cases, negotiating cash collateral agreements, obtaining relief from the automatic stay, and protecting the rights of creditors in bankruptcy plans and sales.

Admitted to practice in both state and federal courts, Ammar is a member of the Creditors’ Rights Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Kalamazoo County and Federal bar associations. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Ammar is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School.

Jeanna M. Weaver, a member of the firm’s Columbus, Ohio office, focuses her practice primarily in the area of banking law. She has extensive experience representing special servicers and lenders in loan workouts and originations, real estate (REO sales), receiverships and bankruptcy in both Michigan and Ohio.

Weaver's main focus is with commercial real estate loan workouts, which includes, but is not limited to, mortgage foreclosures (judicial and non-judicial), deed in lieu transactions, deeds in escrows, receiverships, sales through receivers and REO sales. Her work experience also includes most property types (i.e., office, retail, industrial, multi-family, hotels, mobile home parks, golf courses, etc.). 

Weaver is a cum laude graduate of University of Toledo College of Law. Admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Michigan and Ohio, she is a member of the Columbus and Ohio State bar associations, the State Bar of Michigan and Commercial Real Estate Women.
