Banking Law attorney joins Plunkett Cooney

Susan G. Kowal, a seasoned banking and real estate attorney, recently joined Plunkett Cooney as the newest member of the firm’s Banking, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group.
“We are delighted that someone with Susan's experience is joining our banking law team to further grow the practice,” said Douglas C. Bernstein, Plunkett Cooney’s Banking, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group Leader. “Her particular experience compliments our existing practice very well.”
Kowal will focus her practice in the areas of loan workouts, documentation and foreclosures, as well as related litigation. A member of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, her previous work experience includes real property law, commercial litigation, corporate and banking law, foreclosures, appointment of receivers, rent assignments, loan guaranties and restructuring and deed-in-lieu of foreclosure arrangements.
Kowal has represented developers and property owners in acquiring, financing and other issues related to real property. She also has experience litigating regulatory compliance issues, trade and antitrust matters, breach of contract claims, unfair competition issues and business tort matters in state and federal courts.
Kowal received her law degree in 1997 from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was active in moot court competitions and a member of the Seton Hall University Sports Law Journal and the Sports Lawyers Association. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1993 where she was a member of the women’s swim team.
A licensed realtor, Kowal is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Arts, Communication, Entertainment and Sports Law and Probate Law sections and an affiliate member of the Women’s Council of Realtors.
